Truchard

$35

2010 Carneros Napa Valley Pinot Noir

This brings to mind Carneros pinots from the 1980s in its black cherry flavors and supple earthiness. Rather than feeling heavy or tarry, there’s detail in the earthy grit of the wine, a savory, rooted style of pinot noir with brightness. The Truchards grow this wine on east-facing slopes of Carneros clay, where some of their pinot vines date to 1974. (2,860 cases)

2009 Carneros Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Best Buy)

This wine’s exotic spice scents hide its fruit, giving a Mediterranean impression. With air, black currant–scented cabernet fruit emerges, creating a subtle and elegant balance with the spice. A dark and savory cabernet from the Truchards’ vineyards at the foot of Mt. Veeder, this is an intriguing wine to cellar. (2,922 cases)

$30

2009 Carneros Napa Valley Merlot

Reduced at first, this needs hours of air to get past a rubbery character and show its softer, cleaner side. It develops into a wine that’s gentle and smooth, with a light mineral character to its mild tannins. As soft-textured as prime rib. (1,008 cases)
