2009 Spring Mountain District Napa Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Selected from vines planted on Keenan’s estate in 1998 (mostly clone 7), this Reserve has a vast, mountain-grown intensity. The fruit is substantial, the tannins youthfully brash, their combination powerful, gripping and tense. It has the freshness of wild blueberries and the stickiness of their skins between the teeth, grapey, stately, and destined for long and complex evolution in the bottle. (650 cases)

2009 Spring Mountain District Napa Valley Mernet Reserve

A blend of merlot (50 percent, from the Mailbox Vineyard), cabernet sauvignon (40 percent) and cabernet franc, Mernet carries the dried-herb-and- manzanita scent of Napa Valley’s western hills. The wine has an outward brightness, sunny red currant and lush textures reined in by a firm, earthy structure. Approachable now with time in a decanter, this is built to age for a decade or more. 2011 Spring Mountain District Napa Valley Chardonnay (Best Buy)

Sweet scents of orange and lime meet this wine’s oak and outlast it. The structure is tight and linear, with an undercurrent of earthiness. This should develop well over the next several years in bottle; to serve with roast pork chops. (1,750 cases)

2009 Napa Valley Merlot

Dark in tone, this is a plump, juicy merlot, its texture enriched by oak. A supple wine with a gamey, green-herb element in the background, this leaves a clean impression at the end. Built for a steak. (2,900 cases)
